This summer, Elizabeth and John had the privilege of hosting a Virtuoso Voyage aboard the Regent Seven Seas, welcoming a group of travelers on an unforgettable journey through Alaska. While ensuring every guest experienced the very best the destination had to offer, they, too, got to check off another bucket-list journey.
Their adventure began with several days in Anchorage before boarding the Glacier Discovery Train to Whittier, where they embarked on the Regent. From there, the voyage carried them to the awe-inspiring Hubbard Glacier before continuing to Sitka, Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan, ending in Vancouver. Every destination left an impression, but a handful of moments perfectly captured why Alaska continues to redefine what luxury travel can be.
Access Changes Everything
Before the voyage began, Elizabeth and John climbed aboard a small floatplane for a breathtaking flight around Denali – North America's tallest peak. The experience concluded with a champagne toast beside the pristine waters of Lake Chelatna, surrounded by towering mountains, glaciers, and complete stillness.
For them, and many other travelers, a flight like this was the adventure of a lifetime. But what truly stunned them was what they soon learned from their local guides.
In Alaska, floatplanes aren't reserved for sightseeing. Many residents rely on them the same way the rest of us rely on our cars. They connect remote communities, bring families to cabins tucked deep into the wilderness, and yes, even deliver DoorDash orders to places without roads.

Each morning, Paul – one of the ship's baristas – had Elizabeth's coffee order ready before she reached the counter. Every evening, David – one of the ship's butlers – quietly ensured mint chocolate chip ice cream was available for a guest who was known to love it. Those weren't requests. They were thoughtful gestures made possible by people who genuinely cared about making guests feel known.

The Wild Still Wins
There were, of course, the unforgettable moments that fill a camera roll for a lifetime. Watching whales breach just yards away in Juneau. Standing in awe before the immense face of Hubbard Glacier. Wandering the colorful streets of Ketchikan. Sharing stories over incredible meals aboard the ship. Even ending the day with an impromptu karaoke session in slippers.
But when Elizabeth and John look back on the journey they hosted, those individual moments become part of something much bigger.
